Modern Manners Monday: What Would YOU Do?
You've just invested in a new iPad.
You can't believe how much you love it! Oh, the apps, reader functionality and the uber-coolness nearly blow your mind.
A friend comes by and you begin telling her all about it and recommend that she gets one.
You whip yours out for a test drive.
Somehow or another, she makes an awkward move while holding your iPad and drops it.
The screen is completely shattered.
What would YOU do?

Make her buy me another one.
ReplyDeleteFriends are free, iPads arent. She/He needs to apologize and make provisions to replace it.
ReplyDeleteMr. Goodwill Hunting
Oh, she's apologizing and paying for it, or we can be no more.
ReplyDeleteAfter the shock, disbelief, mini breakdown, and eulogy for the iPad is completed(just kidding...sort of), I will look at her a cock my eyebrow giving her the "Well, what are you going to do to fix this?" look. I know there are places than can fix the shattered screens of iphones and other "smart" phones (let's be real...iphones rock!) so hopefully they will be able to fix the iPad. If I did something like this I know that I would not be ok with myself unless I tried all I could do to fix it.
ReplyDeleteThen, invest in a case for the iPad. Maybe you can even mention something about how you should have gotten a case (through your tears, of course). Hopefully she will catch on and buy you one. Just kidding......sort of!
BTW: I hope this isn't a true story?!?!
I would contact Apple about a replacement. The product had to be defective. If it didn't fall from high up it shouldn't be that easy to break it. As for your friend, you should see what she does about it. It's times like this that reveal the type of person she is. If Apple doesn't replace it I would hope that she would buy you another one. If you know she can't afford it give her the option to do some work with your company to make the money to replace it. Character or lack thereof is revealed in times like this. Not just for her but for you as well. Now, let's make some more money to buy another one!lol Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteWow..hope this is fiction! At any rate, I would like to believe that my friends would offer to replace it. I know that if I was the friend who broke it, I would replace it immediately.
ReplyDeleteI would say .."Wow..let US go ahead and call apple to see how much it will cost you to get the screen repaired"
ReplyDeleteApple has a warranty for just such things as this, but if it didn't cover it, I would expect my friend to replace it. I wouldn't really care about the gory details of how she did it, as long as how she did.
ReplyDeleteI would be apoplectic until I was made whole again. Normally I am pretty laid back about things, but I can't live without my Apple gadgets.
She needs to replace it! Because I would offer if it had been the other way round. Hope this is not a true story (as I type away on my iPad). When you finally received the replacement get a case :-)
ReplyDeletePS I have been reading your blog for some time but only just got the courage to post! It is fabulous....
Tap my foot and wait for her to pull out her check book.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I wouldn't ask her to pay for it. I realize most of us would offer (and most would accept), but accidents happen and I think it's wrong to demand payment. I mean, do you make somone pay for your china if it breaks during a meal or while helping to clean up?
ReplyDeleteI don't have a piece of china that cost $629 + tax and stores all of my personal information and my entire music collection.
ReplyDeleteOMG....i will not be holding anyone's ipad but my own..when i get one lol
ReplyDeleteThat's what you get for whipping it out and bragging about it!
ReplyDeleteWhy did you hand it to her if you're willing to break up a friend ship over this?
I would go to Google and key in "iPad repair."
These things can be fixed for less in places beside the "Pay-Apple Store."
I know this because husband has replaced the glass on his iPhone twice in the past six months.
Girlfriend should have offered to get it fixed or replace it right then and there. I love my Ipad and don't let anyone touch it. Gurl, I can't even imagine.
ReplyDeleteWait two minutes for her to say she's going to replace it. IMMEDIATELY.
ReplyDeleteOh...and I've dropped mine half a dozen times already and it seems to take a lickin' like a champ. LOL!
I agree with what someone said above:
ReplyDelete"MBB Founder and Editor Denene Millner said...
Oh, she's apologizing and paying for it, or we can be no more."
I would absolutely die, because I am obsessed with mine, but I would hope an apology & a timeline to replace it. I don't know that screens can be replaced....
