Modern Manners Monday: What Would YOU Do?

Grilled Tri-tip with Cuban Mojo Sauce

You're hosting a summer dinner party for close friends. Most of the dinner party goes well. However, you burned the grilled steaks.  It is too late to make other plans and there was no other food available that you could serve in place of the ruined meat.

What would YOU do?

  1. Using my common sense. The show must go on, I would just serve what I had.

  2. I would make a dash to the local grocery store for something there already prepared or to Sam's club for their prepared meats, then hide the box tee hee! The partee must go on!

  3. I agree with Tami, I would make a dash to the store. Or I would give our local El Pollo Loco a buzz since they deliver.

  4. Rescue the edible pieces, slice, and make a fast pasta carbonara takeoff or stir fry, depending on the rest of the meal--but I always have a couple of alternatives on hand for dinner parties, since someone invariably forgets to mention that their guest is vegetarian.

  5. Serve more Martinis...maybe after quite a few nobody will realize that the steak is burnt. LOL

  6. Laugh about it and order Chinese food for everyone! I wouldn't want to leave my guests to go to the store.

  7. Yeah either make a run to the prepared foods section of your nearest Whole Foods, or a roast chicken at Safeway or CostCo, etc.

Or, send someone else to do it :)

  8. I would pour more Margaritas while I sent someone to the store!! ;)

  9. Pull the delivery menus out of my junk drawer and pass them around while I make more drinks. LOL!

  10. First, I would be upbeat about it, then quickly check to see if it's salvageable! Since I'm a perfectionist when it comes to the quality, taste, and presentation of my food, if salvageable, I would remove the burnt part, then prepare the meat to be served as an open-face chopped barbeque steak sandwich with various toppings. After eyeing the chopped results and if it doesn't look like enough for my guests if they desire seconds, I would call either Whole Foods or my favorite store's deli dept. (which ever one is closer) to see if they have two wonderful herb roasted whole chickens, have them put it aside for me and immediately send someone to purchase them while I'm preparing the steak. -pearls

  11. Don't waste the meat, put it in a sauce and serve it over pasta or potatoes! Perhaps slice it VERY thin and serve it in a salad with a great ginger/soy dressing like a Thai beef salad.

  12. This would be a good time to make fabulous sandwichs. May have to go to the store to get enough bread or baguettes. Purchase spreadable cheeses and top with fresh veggies and pickle on the side. I agree with the "MORE" margaritas too!

  13. Laugh and order in - and know that I made everyone feel more confident about their own hostessing skills!

  14. If the meat couldn't be salvaged and reinvented in another guise, I'd send someone out for rotisserie chicken or other prepared meat while I kept everyone entertained. But I know I could save the inside of those burned steaks and make some killer tacos!
