L-O-V-E Reese Witherspoon like you probably can not imagine. A Southern girl through and through, I think she's the bees' knees.
I had been so excited as I anticipated seeing this movie. I'd carefully polled my friends who saw Four Christmases and gauged their reactions to what seemed like a fab holiday movie. Everyone said it was awesome and that I'd surely love it.
I am sad to say: Vince Vaughn + Reese Witherspoon = hmmmmmm, notsomuch.
Without writing a spoiler, Four Christmases seemed good in theory, you know? A-List-ish headliners, C-list-ish supporting cast (Sissy Spacek, Mary Steenburgen, Jon Favreau) and a plot that hinged upon Christmas. How could you not think it'd be great?
It certainly wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen but I expected a little more depth. I would venture to say that this movie was filmed in a week. Hey! It was over in, like, an hour and fifteen minutes. Each scene was heavily burdened by predictability and, dare I say, over-acting?
*Sigh* I wanted to like it, I really did. Here's the silver lining: I would watch it again if it were on a movie channel or if it mysteriously shows up in my Netflix queue.
It's worth checking out and is mindless entertainment. Take a break from shopping and grab a matinee. Let me know what you think.

Marco and I saw it this weekend. Just like you we couldn't wait to see it. It was a huge disapointment! All the funny parts are in the trailor. The cutest part of the movie was Reese's hair. I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have any high expectations. I expected it to be cheesy and sappy and that's what I got. I was not at all disappointed in the movie.

I saw it yesterday. It wasn't something I'd have chosen for myself (we had a team outing at work, and Four Christmases worked out best timewise, so that's what we went with), but considering I didn't pay for admission, it was OK. Cute enough and good for an afternoon's light entertainment. Not one I'd rush out and buy when it's out on DVD, though.
