Why, oh, why did I play the fool this weekend?
I was strolling around one of my favorite spots on Saturday afternoon when I noticed this delightful lamp. Trying to keep us out of the poor house, I decided to implement the "24 hour Rule". You may know it well: you walk away from an item for 24 hours and if you still want said item after the cooling off period, you're licensed to buy it. Mr TBS would say this is a crock of bull but who asked him?
I thought this lamp might be a great accessory in my office (which I am still shopping for..stay tuend), so I traveled back to my spot today with $40 in tow. What a bargain, huh? Horror of horrors: it was gone bye-bye. My heart is broken. It has been hard for me to go on today (weep, weep, sigh, sigh).
I thought I might let y'all take a peek. *sigh*
Do you have your own version of the 24 Hour Rule? Does it work for you?
I don't have a 24 hr rule. But as much as it seems you shop, this is probably a good idea for you. Another lamp is right around the corner!
ReplyDelete@Serenity3-0---has Mr TBS gotten to you? LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a rule when I a happen upon what could potentially be large impulse purchase. Otherwise I just buy the item and return it if buyer’s remorse sets in. Can't take a chance that it won't be there in 24 hours.
ReplyDeleteNope.
ReplyDelete(I feel like I contribute NOTHING over here. *sigh*)
@Monica: Don't feel that way! It's not all about contributing; hopefully, you pick up some tips for yourself. Before you know it, you'll be dispensing info left and right :-)
ReplyDeleteI also implement that rule. It has worked wonders for curbing my spending habits. I use to have a closet full of clothing with the tags on them. Now, I go home and if I really want it the next day, I go back for it. If it's no longer there, it wasn't meant to be.
ReplyDeleteSooooo, are ya gonna spill the beans on the locale of this "favorite spot"??? Some of us are in DIRE need of additional resources. How 'bout I trade ya...The House Store (formerly Storehouse Furniture) on Early St. in Buckhead is going out of business and everything is 50% off. From what I've read, TBS will probably be able to finagle an additional 25%... LOL

erra....sorry. i'm having issues. can't figure out how to post non-anonymous comment.

@sumthought: first of all, please shoot me an email and let me know if your issues are on my end or yours.
ReplyDeleteYou probably won't be surprised to know that I've been to The House Store. It's still too expensive. I predict that they'll increase the percentage after Christmas. A little birdie told me that they hope to close by year's end. So don't buy anything just yet.
The spot in this post wasn't intended to be a secret: it is TJ Maxx on Howell Mill Road in ATlanta.
I'll let you know if I get updates re: The Home Store.
i should've know you already knew the scoop...LOL..will leave the home decor shopping tips to you from now on!

Something was wrong with the comments yesterday I think cuz mine came out as from Monica instead of CreoleInDC. Me know nuttin bout why.
ReplyDeleteYes but it is quite the opposite. I buy it and then if I am not still excited about it the next day, I return it. That way I don't run the risk of it being gone.
ReplyDeleteYes, but I always buy my item. If it's a big box store (TJMaxx, Home Goods, Marshalls, etc), you can't risk not having that item on the shelf when you return. They have have customer friendly return policies too.
