Modern Manners Monday: What Would YOU Do?

It's the height of the political season and a very critical election is coming up.

You have made it your business to avoid the discussion of politics; not only is it personal, you do not think it's appropriate.

You've a friend who continues to badger you about your political leanings and allegiances.  She has taken some liberties and made some incorrect assumptions about your leanings.  One afternoon she rants and rants about a candidate who happens to be your preference.  Your blood is nearly boiling.

What would YOU do?

  1. I would just tell her that the only difference that can be made is by voting and that we would appreciate if she keeps her rants to herself. If I truly don't want to discuss my political views, then no one can push me to do it.

  2. I'd say, as I always do, "I'm really bad at talking politics."

  3. If you're adamant about not discussing politics, then don't. Sometimes Michael and I can't even have a rational discussion. So I definitely wouldn't go there with others. And like you said, people tend to want to box you in and are usually surprised when you don't lean in the same direction as they do.

  4. I would tell her that everyone has their preference and that we are entitled to it with out the judgement of others. As a friend I would hope that you would honor my request to keep my views to myself! Now what are we going to do today? Her answers will indicate to you the type of person that she is!

  5. "I have to go now." Then go. Lather, rinse, repeat.

  6. I have had this come up. I just repeat, like a broken record, "I'm not having this conversation."

Remember the toddler years? It's like that.
