Passports: Are You A Citizen Of The World?

Us-passport.jpg
I wish more people recognized the value of a passport. I have always viewed it as a key to the world. How wonderful it is to be able to use this little booklet as an opportunity to see a variety of natural phenomena and encounter people with different backgrounds.

Simply put, mine means the world to me.

The PSA-ish component of this post is that the cost of a U.S. Passport is increasing soon. The State Department is increasing the cost of a new passport from $100 to $135.  The cost of a renewal goes from $75 to $110 for adults. For children, the cost will go from $85 to $105. Greedy, much, State Department? Wow.  If you don't have a passport, this is a prime opportunity to take advantage of lower costs.

Do YOU have a passport? Where's the last place you traveled with it?

  2. This is a great informative post. I have be delayed on getting me and my daughter's passport because her father will not sign the passport form (any suggestions). We went to the Virgin Islands but we could not go to the British VA's because of teh passport. I would love to travel to Venice and to Australia before this year is out. But I do not want to leave my daughter behind! IJS!

I've been lurking for a while and today I just had to throw in my two cents (rather my $100).

  9. Well I can give another spin to the passport, I am Haitian born and for that reason my travelling is very limited. Travelling on a Haitian passport means that immigrations speak to you longer than everyone else. Trust me value your passports because it is your identity. Children born to illegal parents in the Dominican Republic do not have the privilege of owning a passport because they were born in one country and their parents are from another one.

  10. I went to England for only 2 days; got hideously sick, never left The Mayfair Hotel and came straight back home. All alone. Terrible waste of a passport, isn't it? Marsha

  20. I've used it a lot (all over Europe, Mexico, Canada etc.)but not for the last 3 years since being 'downsized'. I kept putting off a vacation in fear I would get another job and have to cancel...so now I finally said it's time and am planning to go to Europe in Sept. If I do get a job they will just have to do without me in Sept. Time's a'wastin and there is so much to see and do. I'm going to Spain for the first time and visiting France, Italy & Germany. My newly renewed Passport is so happy! As am I! :-)
