And Then There Was Martha.

at The Martha Stewart Show

I am likely the very last person in Martha's audience on Thursday, January 14, 2010 to actually write about the experience. Remarkably, I'm OK with that.  It's taken me nearly a month to absorb the fact that I was actually in New York City and on The Martha Stewart Show.

Back in December, I received an invitation from Ashley of Ice Milk Aprons to potentially attend a show that would feature blogs and those of us who write them. She pitched our names (including The Weary Publicist and Running With Tweezers) to the audience coordinators and, lo and behold, all four of us were selected.  The obsession begin: When would we leave?, Where would we lodge? and, most importantly, What would we wear? What would we wear? What would we wear? (Ha!)  Logistically, everything fell in place nicely and, just after the holidays, we were on our way.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived and ran into some of my blogging buddies like Prissy Mommy, Justice Fergie, Style Mom and Mom Noir. I'd met these ladies last year at Blogalicious and I've been privileged enough to count them as delightful arcs in my circle since then.

Shortly after arriving at the studio and clearing security (yes...security), we were escorted to Martha's beautiful studio. It took my breath away. I wanted to stand in the middle of it and spin around a la Mary Tyler Moore. Thank goodness for home training; I practiced restraint.  As it turned out, my girlfriend Tami of Running With Tweezers, was selected to be interviewed during pre-screening and landed us a couple of seats on one of the front rows (there was too much gabbing and they ran out of time...wonk, wonk). And there my 15 minutes of fame began... If I'm going to cash in my 15 minutes anywhere, they might as well be redeemed at Martha (or...OK...Oprah), no?

So here you have it. My appearance (and an audience of other fab bloggers) on Martha. She was absolutely as I expected. Not overly friendly. Very matter of fact but almost enchanting. I don't know if I was more enthralled by her Yves St Laurent stilettos or the mere presence of the mogul that is she.  That's a tough one, y'all.

If you look closely, you'll see me in the front row wearing a green sweater (you would be AMAZED at the list of things we were NOT to wear) and hopefully not looking too goofball-ish.  If you ever have an opportunity to attend a taping, please try to make it happen. It was an experience that I'll never forget.

Here is the link to The Blog Show, January 2010. Feel free to ask me any questions!

Have you ever participated in the studio audience of a talk show?

  1. This sounds wonderful. Martha Stewart is one of the business women I admire. I admire people who have the courage to build businesses doing what they love. What a great opportunity and experience for you! I haven't had the privilege of being in a studio audience, yet, but I know I will at some point. Congrats to you!

  3. This sounds (and looks) like so much fun. I haven't been to a live taping but thought that since Mo'nique is now taping in town, maybe I'll look for some tickets.

  9. Just found your blog - signed up to follow. How exciting to be at a live taping of the MS Show. I met her once years ago at a book signing in St. Louis. I still have that cookbook. Can't wait to read more. Jamie

  10. You KNOW I was screaming and yelling while I was watching you. I even yelled at the President for his quick update on Haiti for interrupting. LOL!

Robby and I were invited to Oprah for their show on interracial dating and we were invited to Martha for their ValentiMe's show. We enjoyed it big time!
