Modern Manners Monday: What Would You Do?

You're out shopping with a friend.

For Pete's sake, she can't manage to use her "inside" voice.  She's talking at the top of her lungs about everything from work to her new favorite cocktail.

Other shoppers are beginning to glance your way; it's obvious that they are appalled that she's having a conversation nearly at the top of her lungs.

What do you do?

  1. Girl you know how semi-bold I am LOL. I'd politely say "Could you bring it down a few notches"????

  2. She's your friend. If she is sensitive, I wouldn't say anything. She may have been shuushed all her life. If she has a medium thick skin, just a put a finger on your lips and glance at the other people to indicate that you don't mind but those other guys do. If she has a really thick skin, say, "Good lord, are you TRYING to tell everyone in the store this story?":)

  3. She's my friend so I would say "Girl the whole store does not need to hear our convo simmer down!"

  4. I agree with Ms. Creole. Sometimes we all get a little more 'enthusiastic' than we are aware and need our friends to laugh with us (& at us) when we do...

  5. Seeing how I am the LOUD friend most of the time, I have no problem being told to turn down the volume. In fact, this very thing happened to me last week!

I'm just very excitable. *blinks with doe eyes*

  6. I have a friend, who is also my sister, and she has hearing loss but no hearing aids, so I accept her louder voice, even in public.

  7. That is a tough one! I am not sure what I would do but I know exactly what you are talking about. :)

  8. Tell her that she was too loud, and let her know that not everyone cares about our conversation.

Now as friends we know each other...sometimes it's from excitment...sometimes folks just want to draw attention to themselves...

  9. I wouldn't have any problem telling her to hold it down.

  10. I have some veeeeeerrrrrry loud friends....sometimes it's best to just laugh along. I've seen way more offensive things in public that make my friends voice being on 10 seem mild.

  11. Is she always this way? If so I'd give her a "3 strikes and you're out" pep talk before we hit the store. If she's my friend, she'd know by know that on the 3 strike I won't say a word, just leave the store and wait for her in the car :)
