Modern Manners Monday: What Would You Do?

I can't tell you how much fun I had on Saturday with Eddie Ross and his partner, Jaithan Kochar. I absolutely love those two! I'm sort of bummed that the guided tour has come and gone and there is no real reason to e-mail Jaithan regularly. Being the dear that he is, he invited me to stay in touch. I will post on the trip tomorrow because Eddie really had some great tips. You MUST get over to his blog if you haven't already.

It's that time again. Modern Manners Monday. Here's this week's scenario:

You are hosting a fabulous barbecue at your home. Naturally, the festivities have been relegated to the main floor of your home which includes the living area, kitchen, patios and the bathrooms in between...perfect for entertaining. In the midst of mixing and mingling, a guest approaches you and says: "This is the first time I've been to your home. Aren't you going to give me a tour?"

What do YOU do?

  1. What????? Are they serious? The answer would be a nice-nasty NO!!!!!!!!

Well, I guess I'm happy they asked and didn't take it upon themselves to go on a self-guided tour! Gasp!

Yes, it's your first time here and keep on with the no manner having shenanigans, it will be your last day here!

    Or better yet....
Oh yes, let me stop this fabulous event and give you a private tour, I almost forgot it was "all about YOU day" My bad. *rolls eyes*

  2. I am the Queen of "shove it in a closet" or "pile it in a room and shut the door" so an unexpected tour would definitely NOT fit in to my plans. I am also the Queen of Polite Deferment so I would think of a sweet yet strong way to say NO to a private tour outside of the party grounds.

  3. Actually I am used to this. I live away from my family and my childhood friends. After we built our house and finished it the way we wanted, I liked giving the grand tour. We were a do it yourself couple and I was proud of our work.

However I would never ask for a tour unless it was family or a close friend.

  5. I politely smile and whisper, "No, I'm not, others not as special will want the same." Then I let her know it would be my pleasure to have her over another time when can truly relax and let your hair down.

Although I must admit I'm a bit surprised they even had the audacity to ask. Did my invite say housewarming? Proper etiquette denotes you waiting for me to offer you a tour; never ask, no matter how badly you want to. Gasp. Have we no manners?

  6. Hmmm... It's all in the delivery."This is the first time I've been to your home. Aren't you going to give me a tour?" would probably solicit a heartfelt NO, not right now, maybe another time. Had this guest said, "This is the first time I've been in your home. It's incredible, (It's Lovely)(I love what you've done with it)(I've heard how fantastic the rest of it is)I would love to see the rest sometime? would probably not only get them a viewing later that afternoon but would put me in even a better party mood.

  7. I am also a shove-it-into-the-tub-and-pull-the-curtain kind of girl, so I would just say, I'd love to put I wouldn't want the other guests to feel left out, let's do it another time, and then make sure I never have that person over again.

  8. I'd tell the guest that I would have to have the over for a private tete-a-tete and give them a tour when I didn't have a houseful of guests.
