I recently began analyzing 1) how much money we are spending on groceries , 2) how much food I usually throw away and 3) how much I eat out at work for lunch. Needless to say, we're making some big changes in our household. I do admit that I need to be more deliberate in my grocery shopping strategy (yes...even I struggle to stay on track from time to time) and simply need to bring my lunch.
Yesterday, for example, I had a Lean Cuisine Chicken, Spinach and Mushroom panini ($2.25). Those things are GREAT! I wasn't expecting it to be so very tasty. I supplemented with a salad of baby spinach and cherry tomatoes ($1.00) and a Cran-Raspberry La Croix sparkling water ($.29). I felt so very satisfied for $3.55! When I go out for lunch, I usually spend at LEAST $10.
So starting this week, I've begun a self-imposed challenge for a month. With the exception of Fridays, I will bring my lunch each day. I can't wait to share how much I save!
Do you take your lunch to work or eat out? Why do you do one versus the other? Any cost-saving ideas to share?
yay for eating in Cafe Kitchen!
ReplyDeleteMy job provides lunch two days out the week, I bring lunch to work the other two and eat out once a week.
ReplyDeleteOn a cost savings note, here's a tip for a free lunch. Quiznos is offering one million free subs. You will need to register for the free coupon here: http://www.millionsubs.com/index.php

ReplyDelete@Stacy: Thanks so much for sharing!
I try to take my lunch at least 3 days a week. DH takes his every day. It really does help. I an am avid coupon clipper and by doing that I have been able to pack some pretty good lunches. So, like KatieT, our Cafe Kitchen is open as well.
ReplyDeleteLove this post bc I am lunch-bringer too! Helps with a cute monogrammed lunchbag to bring it all in with me :) Side note - LOVE the Lean Cuisine Spa meal of Butternut Squash Ravioli - try it, its a huge fav with my group, doesn't taste like LC at all.
