I'm A Rockette...

...in my head; but a Rockette nonetheless.

Last night, I had an opportunity to see The Rockettes at The Fox Theater in Atlanta.  It turned into a girls' night out with 8 of us giggling at Santa, fawning over the Rockettes' costumes and their every high-kick and enjoying the dancing poinsettias, bears and mice.

I don't know about you, but I'd never seen The Rockettes' Christmas production.  You really couldn't tell the difference between me and the legions of kids in the audience when it came to sheer amazement.  "Wow!" is certainly an understatement.

This year's show, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, in Atlanta is sponsored by the AFLAC Cancer Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA).  Prior to the kickoff of the show, one of the chairs of this installment of the event series mentioned that CHOA cares for nearly 275,000 children each year. Now that deserves a superlative! My younger sister spent a great deal of time within this hospital system when she was a child as she suffers with sickle cell anemia, a hereditary blood disorder. This, of course, made attending last night's show that much more special.

Tonight's festivities reminds me that going to the theater, whether it be a national tour or a local production, is a budget-friendly option for entertainment.  We popped into Churchill Grounds for a post-show toast and then we were on our way. Home before 11 PM.

When was the last time you went to the theater? What'd you see?

  1. Jersey Boys at the Fox. I left work early for the last matinee it was in town. Walked up to the box office less than an hour before show time and scored a 5th row center seat! A woman sat beside me and she had come on her own, too, just taking a chance on getting a good ticket. We kept congratulating each other on our great luck!

  2. I make it a point to see theater myself and take my kids often...especially this time of year we try to see something Christmasy. Last year we saw "Black Nativity" and "The Wizard of Oz" with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The year before that we saw "The Wiz" and "The Nutcracker". This year we have tickets to see Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular Thanksgiving weekend and we're looking forward to it.....the last time we saw it was when we live in NYC several years ago.

Although I have to say that it is a big financial commitment to take all 4 of us to the theater...on average a show at the Fox will cost us over $250!

  3. We just saw the Rockette on Friday (yes, Black Friday nonetheless). It is one of my favorite holiday show!! This show is amazing and really will get you into the Holiday spirit.

I wouldn't call this a budget friendly for a family though. It costs us over $200 for a family of 4 and that when I scored a discount and drove myself to the theatre to get my tickets in order to avoid the excessive fees from ticketmaster. :) But it's absolutely worth every cent.
